We are seldom surprised by sushi... as my daughter says, most sushi is good, unless it's really bad. But this place took my whole family by surprise while we vacationed in Daytona Beach. Sure, the other reviews mostly rave about this place, but come on - it's sushi, so of course it's going to be good, right? But the freshness and food quality were nearly outdone by the presentation of the sushi. Beautiful designs added to the great flavors and creative options available. We are so happy we came here! The service was also good, although they did lose a couple of orders we submitted, and somehow we ended up with a chicken tempura roll that we don't remember ordering. But overall, a great experience and worthy of 5 stars!

The food is not fresh. The taste is not good. The restaurant is look old. The service is very bad, I request the water 2 times and I didn't get any water. (Just get it after I pay the bill). The waiter didn't take the dishes away when I'm finish the food and the table was full of dishes. The waiter don't know the order and get the wrong food to me. The is the first time and the last time for me.

I really don't know if my sushi was actually good or if I was just so famished anything would have tasted good :( We had a ridiculous THREE hour wait. Worse than that, the way they brought out the food was a total joke. One person at a time, while creating it! By the time the second person was served their meal, person number 1 was done eating - I was person number 6... It was, pretty much, the worst dining experience I've had since I've been old enough to buy food. They did comp our drinks, and you better believe they were fast as lightening getting those checks to the table lol. I will not go back and could not, in good faith refer them to anyone.

I tried Café du Japon because looking at Yelp reviews, it appears to have won the highest marks overall for Daytona-area sushi restaurants. I had been to Sushi Ronin a few times and wanted to try something else, so I was glad to find it in a very good location on Seabreeze. The restaurant is small, making good use of a retail space that is humble on the outside with a traditional white storefront window and entry door set-up, but turning the interior into something that offers a feel of intimacy and slight exoticism. It could be argued the interior really tries too hard: there is a plasma-screen playing photos of Japan (and oddly, it seems also Russia and Italy maybe?) and some of the artwork seems generic-trendy, but the lanterns and lighting overall make for an intimate and inviting experience. Other reviewers have mentioned the service here. Ok, here's my own take: the service, alas, is pretty much inept. Not lazy, not indifferent, but inept. They seem to mean well overall, but they just don't have their act together. First, a young server approached me, got my order for unsweetend iced tea then returned to say they were out of it. Ok, can they do sweet tea or iced green tea? I was told no on both. Ok, I'll just have water. I'm going to get drinks later with friends so water's fine, thanks. There is a discussion between this waiter and an older waiter and then the younger dude disappears and the older one comes over to get my food order. I again mention the tea and he says nothing, then says "oh, I guess he [other guy] is making some for you". Clearly he's not sure. I still don't have water. Neither of these waiters come back to check on me. The older one is behind the sushi bar beside the chefs on the computer/cash register for like eight minutes, typing. He looks like Geordi on Star Trek reprogramming an antimatter reactor or something up in there. I cannot imagine what he has to do with the ordering/billing system so long. I finally flag down another server, a lady, and request water. The younger waiter returns in a flash, very apologetic and says he can make me some iced green tea. He brings it and water a few minutes later. The drama of many servers and no clue what's going on continued throughout the entire time I was there. The older waiter, bringing me my spicy tuna salad, kinda slid it over to me, bumping his arm into my shoulder and acting in a manner that I would be surprised at if, say, a friend passed me chips with this indifference while watching a bball game on TV even: it wasn't just casual, it was nearly rude. It wasn't appropriate for a waiter in a restaurant, certainly. I didn't say anything though. I am pretty chill and laid-back and on one hand didn't care, but still. You don't need to call me "sir", you don't need to act like the customer is always right, but dude: don't basically toss food at someone. Set it down so they see it being presented and announce what it is, wait to see if they have questions. You'd even get that at Olive Garden, yo. So on to the food: I ordered a spicy tuna salad, a Philly roll, a yellowtail roll, and tuna and salmon nigiri. I am pretty much a purist about sushi. I take sushi and seafood in general very seriously. I have written reviews for several magazines of restaurants, including Japanese ones. And with all that said, I can honestly say I was very, very, impressed by the quality of the fish here and the composition of the rolls. The Philly roll may have been the best I've ever had. The tuna nigiri was one very fresh and tasty piece of tuna and I ordered a second one because it was so good. The spicy tuna salad was alright but too salty--its marinade was just too salty. However, again, all the fish used here was superb. The chef looked Japanese and seemed to be totally on top of his game. His assistant sushi chefs were actually functioning as sushi sous-chefs to him, a rarity in Florida. This wasn't just three chefs in a row but a master assisted by his staff. I cannot explain how a sushi chef of such acumen doesn't notice the performance of his front-of-house people, but whatever. He apparently doesn't. Oh. In addition, their prices are much cheaper than many sushi bars in Florida. Nice. I would go back. I would give it five stars for the quality of food, and I was tempted to do such and neglect to even mention the waitstaff because I don't want to make enemies out of them as I DO want to go back, and go back soon. My friends and I just checked and to our dismay the restaurant is shut on Sundays so we can't go tomorrow. This is sad. I really, really, love the sushi here (and I've eaten at Kyo-Ya in San Francisco, once considered the best sushi outside of Japan) but I don't get what's up with the front-of-house. And again, I don't think the staff is lazy but just not organized. Maybe if they knew they were working for possibly one of the top sushi chefs in Florida they'd improve? Because they are.

I'm hesitant to write this review for fear of everyone finding out about this place, but I'll go ahead and say this is the best sushi in a 50 mile radius! The sushi menu isn't on their website (I hope they rectify that soon), but I took pictures of their sushi menu book and posted for your reference (check out the cheap prices!). This place has no visible sign, looks rough from the outside, and could be misleading. But venture onward! Our favorite rolls were the Smoking Salmon Lava (by far the best!), the OMG roll, and the Sunset Scallop roll. They also do to-go/ take out, so hopefully they'll update their website menu soon to reflect all the delicious offerings!

I walked about a mile to get this place since the Yelp reviews were great and I like sushi. There's no host so I sat myself. Half of the seating was empty. Made eye contact with two servers and continued to wait. Server brought food to another table in front of mine and then walked away. I sat there for a few more minutes looking at their fabulous reviews on my iPad while staff talked amongst themselves behind the counter. Waited a few minutes without any acknowledgement from staff so I left.

Stopped by Cafe du Japon on our adventure from Orlando to St. Augustine- THANK GOODNESS FOR YELP. We would have NEVER found this place if it wasn't for the reviews of all those that came before us. I almost reconsidered my "5 star" review now that I am re-reading the reviews from my fellow yelpers... Free green tea?!?! wtf, I guess you need to make sure you request that free stuff... ANYWAYS, be careful- you might just drive by 306 seabreeze... There is no obvious signage and this place is a hole in the wall. Additionally, don't be scared away by the ambiance here... These floors could use a good scrub down... Now let me get to the 'meat' of this review. The sushi is amazing. And if you do want meat, they do offer a crispy chicken jalapeño roll with your name on it! We ordered the edamame, seaweed salad, tropical roll, jalapeño shrimp roll, fried California roll, and the fried eel roll. I tried to put pictures of all the rolls on Yelp. We were so full we could barely finish all the delicious Japanese bites. My favorite was probably the tropical roll with the salmon and mango but the fried eel was so savory it is hard to decide! We also had an ice tea. All this for $33!! We had half the food at disney world for twice the price! This place is truly a glorious 'hole.'

Been going to cafe du japon since it opened. Always consistent with the sushi, and I am very picky with my sushi. If you go you should definitely try the cucumber roll it is very refreshing, my personal favorite is that roll and the jalapeno shrimp roll. Also some very nice food in the kitchen as well, like the udon! I highly recommend trying this place out if you've never been here before.
(5)Lezlie A.
The sushi was absolutely the best in Daytona and I've been everywhere . I never noticed this place . I downloaded Yelp and it found it .. Only a block from my house I will b a reg

We tried to find this place in the dark. There is no big sign on the building , just a little placard on the door. However there is a big neon Internet sign in the window. The room was darkened and they had a starlight ball going so it reminded me of roller skating rinks..couples only skate in the 80s. Lol. The wait staff was ok. The sushi was fun. They brought out a photo album with their specialty sushi. Even that did not prepare us for the one pictured below. Not only was it breath taking but it was also delicious. The prices were rwSona le. The regular sushi was actually cheaper than most standard sushi places. My favorite was the Oh My God roll. We plan to return on our next trip.
(4)Aryn N.
What a great sushi place! The service is awesome, the sushi is awesome, and the prices are awesome! Favorite sushi place to go to in town! When you walk in they remember you, and offer new things to try that they think you will enjoy! I always tell my clients to stop by after they get there hair done, because I know they won't be disappointed!

Ocean? Check. Fresh fish? Check. Staff who are friendly and obviously take pride in their cuisine? Check. Ladies and gentlemen, we are on to a winner! Complimentary green tea comes in the best mugs. At least, to me. See my photos for evidence. You can have as many refills as you want. The vibe is cute and laid-back, that sort of French-influenced Japanese cafe thing that some Japanese places do so well. Specials are written on a whiteboard, and I had lovely smoked salmon and uni sushi that made me very happy. That uni was so creamy and delightful! When you look at the menu, you're also presented with a binder full of beautiful photos of each of their special rolls. More sushi places should do this! People eat with their eyes, and one of the great things that good sushi has going for it is exquisite presentation. I ordered a Red Dragon roll even though I was by myself, because that photo was too pretty (and I had a fridge in my hotel room). I also ordered green tea ice cream to go, and boom -- there was lunch AND dinner solved! No boring hotel food for me! If this place was closer to home, I'd be a regular and I'd take out-of-town friends there, too. It's that kind of place. They also serve Japanese beer and sake if you'd prefer.
(5)Amanda R.
I do not see why this place is so highly rated? After hearing and reading so many wonderful reviews my friends and I decided to check this place out for ourselves. The service (I cannot stress this enough!!!) was HORRIBLE! Our waiter yelled at us and made me feel like an idiot for asking if my friend and I could have separate checks. He also forgot one of our appetizers as well as one of our sushi entrees. He also called us by "bro" the entire time. As for the food quality I must say that the menu is reasonably priced and has a large variety but the quality of the sushi is nowhere close to being the BEST in Daytona Beach. Eel and Tuna are my favorite and I could not finish my sashimi it was so awful. I was highly disappointed with my experience and will not be returning. If you want great sushi and exceptional service I would stick to Ronin.

Ok... So I know I'm not the most patient person in the world (Former NJ/NYC girl here), but I'm pretty easy going and open when it comes to restaurants in FL, especially sushi (good food takes good time to prepare!)... I had heard AMAZING things about this "new" place, so when a NYC friend came to visit, I heard "this is the place" to take your NYC friends to... Oh man, were ALL of the reviews wrong. I won't insult the sushi, because it was good (decent, nothing special), but it was the service and the wait that ruined this experience for me... We were a table of 7 at an early Saturday dinner (we got there before 6:30), and the restaurant wasn't very crowded... So we all ordered appetizers and sushi at the same time, expecting the appetizers (miso soup and edamame) to come out relatively timely, not hard dishes to put out. My miso soup took an hour and a half to bring out (cold, but tasty, but COLD?!?!), and one of my dining companions got edamame (which came out closer to 2 hours after ordering- Did I mention it was a SLOW night there?)... So FINALLY our sushi rolls started coming out at the 2 hour mark, but only two rolls came out, for one person and then nothing... and then about 20 minutes later, 2 rolls came out for a friend who had ordered 4 rolls... Then another half hour later, I finally flagged down our server and asked what the delay was, and she said "that's how Chef does things... I genuinely hate using the word "literally" as an exaggeration, but after those 4 rolls (not even ONE complete order), NOTHING came out for another 45 minutes or so. Ok, so after almost 3 hours, 3 out of 7 people had their meals, and the rest of us were starving and salivating at everything that came out... Still took another hour for EVERYONE's rolls to come out, so several of us thought we should speak to a manager... Having owned restaurants (as well as working in many over the years), I expected an "I'm sorry, we're super busy" or "perfection takes time", but our waiter was SO rude, he didn't even want to listen to our questions regarding why our meal was taking so long (and he never came back- sent another server to bring our checks), or take any responsibility for anything going wrong. So I know this is long winded but please trust me, this place needs to either adjust itself, or just be shut down for mediocre food and pathetic service. The sushi was decent, but 4 hours after I ordered 3 rolls, with rude or nonexistent service, I would HIGHLY recommend Ronin, Takara, or any other sushi restaurant in the area before this one. Order at your own risk! Seven pissed off customers, RB

I have been to this place several times before reading the reviews, and I can agree with some, but not all. It's a small restaurant on Seabreeze, really the only reason why I would ever go to Seabreeze at all. When you walk in it's an open room with several photographs hanging on the walls, the owner and chef is also a photographer so he hangs his art at the restaurant. Is the service slow? It can be. But, considering the sushi is good and cheap, well, I won't complain about the service. It's actually gotten better as they have hired more staff in the past few months. Definitely the best sushi in Daytona, unless there's some hidden gem I haven't tried yet. But, after trying every sushi place in Daytona and Ormond, this is hands down the best. Sushi is always fresh and delicious, and the prices are amazing. Oh, and don't forget the green tea is free :)
(5)Brandon B.
Sushi is amazing!!! Prices are very very cheap! Oh my god roll is amazing! Fried rice is made fresh! Very good!!!
(5)Yulia M.
Oh I like writing about places that deserve 5 stars rating only :) so this one is one of them. Very good for Daytona beach :) Nice and creative chief. Comparatively cheap prices...
(5)Andy R.
Looking from the outside you might hesitate to go in. Do yourself a favor go in, this is the best sushi I've had. This chef and his assistant are true Masters; triple spicy tuna crunch roll excellent and really just about everything else is also. For the quality of the sushi the prices are cheap, I hate to use the word cheap in talking about sushi, I won't eat at any sushi buffet and I'm picky.
(5)Ashley M.
I walked right passed this place as the only sign is very tiny on the front door. Glad I found it though. Reasonably priced and the rolls i had were good. Next time I go for lunch i think i'll just get whatever the specials are though. The two ladies next to me were very angry about how long their meal took and that they "didn't get any vegetables" I could see broccoli on their plates, so not sure what they meant. Never go to a sushi place if you're in a hurry... rookies.
(4)Jonathan K.
Appalling, appalling service. Made a reservation, and showed up to be told no reservation was in "the books". Waited for a table and then waited almost 2 hours for food. We had 2 kids in tow, and ordered apps which we were told would only come out with the rest of our order. After sitting for 1.25 hours, we were told that they had a stack of tickets, but not to worry...ours was getting close to the top.
(1)Sean R.
Really good sushi. Service was not slow as some people had reported. Staff was great. OMG roll was excellent. Definitely recommend. Go by the address on the building as the sign on the door is easy to miss and there is a different name on the window.
(4)Kate G.
Went here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised that there was a regular crowd. I had a triple spicy tuna roll and a spicy conch roll. Both were really good. I will be back. The only thing that is keeping it from being a five star review is that the waiter was a little flighty. We had to ask twice for water refills and it still took him a while to get them to us.
(4)Christian W.
Awesome little spot. Great portion size and value. Come with an appetite, leave with Togo boxes. The food was more then I expected from Daytona. A city not know for a huge food scene. Very fresh well prepared food. I suggest you order in courses or you may get overwhelmed with food.
(5)Shea D.
On a trip to Daytona beach shores Florida, my family and I stopped in to try Cafe Du Japon. My husband and I are foodies so I checked out restaurant reviews to plan for our vacation. I read great reviews about Cafe Du Japon prior to our visit and I was excited to see if sushi chef Maki was as great as the reviews described. After eating 6 specialty rolls with my mother and husband all I can say is Maki makes eatable art that tastes as good as it looks. It was an experience that was a true high light of our vacation. I was very surprised by how affordable and great the sushi is. I can truly see how Cafe Du Japon won an award from Urbanspoon. It is completely deserved and it defiantly worth a stop in to try them out. I highly recommend Cafe Du Japon!!!!!!!!
(4)Justin B.
Best sushi I've had in the Daytona area. The fried California roll, jalapeño oyster roll and teriyaki tuna roll were all to die for! And this place is dirt cheap! Cheap beer, saki and food. And the disco ball sets the mood haha. This place blew me away. Can't wait to go back.
(5)Nicole V.
Ridiculously good sushi!!! Great prices! Oh my god roll was delicious as was the Tropical Crunch Roll. Spicy Salad also a must. Presentation is some of the best I've seen.
(5)Daniel I.
I love sushi but I've never waited 45 min for 2 rolls. The wait is outrageous for sushi that is sub par. If you have nothing to do and want "decent" sushi this place is great. Took forever to get water refills too.
(2)Scott R.
The rice is particularly good. Cannot put my finger on the spice or mix. Good individual portions too but I went back for eel and tuna. Highly recommend.
(5)Fred R.
Was recommended us for the sushi. We didn't get to try it because their were so many people ordering it that there was about an hour wait for sushi. Dante who works there (owner?) was great to tell us that before we were seated, so we could go some where else if we didn't want to wait. We decided to try the kitchen food, Dante recommended particular dishes and they was great. Highly recommend for food and service. They even recommended another restaurant that we tried the next day and loved.
(5)Jose S.
I had high expectations before coming here to eat. I knew the service was lousy and it was. I was a little suspicious. The service is akin to thieves breaking in and being surprised by customers so they pretend to be waiters. The soup was last for some reason and no one received their food with anyone else. We all ate at different times. There was about a 30 minute difference between my daughter getting her lunch and me receiving mine. REALLY!!!?? The baby octopus salad was not very good. Not much flavor. For that matter, none of the rice was flavorful. The only thing I can say they did well was keep our glasses filled and the sushi was very good. Will NOT go back. Do yourself a favor and only patron this place if you want sushi.
(2)Kim N.
Service was painfully slow. Not a fan of the sushi. They only allow you to "give" a star.
(1)marni p.
Came here on a whim while on vacation. The sushi is inventive and delicious. Even better are the prices ! You have to love a restaurant that is started purely for the love of his food. I would drive from Orlando for this food!
(4)Jason R.
Great selection of roles and sashimi. Nice drink menu. Reasonably priced. Kind of a dead atmosphere.
(4)Mr S.
In town for a couple of days and being the sushimiholic that I am, had to get a fix Went in at 6:00 on a Friday night Great service Great sashimi I'll be back!
(4)J C.
Great sushi! Even better prices. The fish is fresh and the sashimi and rolls are DELICIOUS. I can't believe we didn't find this place sooner...especially since we desperately search for a good sushi spot in Daytona every time we're in town. Every other place we've tried (which is probably every other sushi restaurant in the area) has been mediocre at best. This place completely surprised us.
(5)Ariel S.
Hands down best sushi in town! The owner has been making sushi for 30 years and the wait staff is so very pleasant. The selection is very original and the fish is very fresh. There is also a hibachi menu to choose from as well as a smattering of different saki. Again, best sushi in the Daytona area, and I eat sushi religiously.
(5)Michele A.
Seriously great. Maki is kind and always smiling. The prices are cheap! Rolls usually come with 8-10 pieces and run from 3-10 dollars. The triple crunch roll is wonderful and the 5$ kitchen lunch of tempura shrimp is tasty too. Go. Just go.
(5)Mia W.
Really slow. We wait at least 10 minutes to order our dinner....
(3)Will L.
The atmosphere was... what I'd call interesting; but maybe it is traditional for authentic Japanese sushi restaurants to sport a disco ball in the center. The sushi was very good, nothing spectacular but also quite reasonably priced. I was most impressed with the fried California Rolls, of which I have never tried before and found to be the best thing I had the entire meal. Be sure to ask for the complimentary Green Tea, they didn't mention it when we sat down but we were served some after we inquired about it. The Mochi dessert (balls??) were very very tasty, I'd suggest trying one of those too. All in all, it was an enjoyable meal for a little less that I had anticipated to be paying.
(4)Ziming S.
Sushi was good, all the ingredients were very fresh! The service was very good too,and price is not too expensive! I will definitely come back to this place for such great sushi.
(5)Omar M.
Awesome little sushi bar! I've tried plenty of sushi spots everywhere I go, I have to say Mr. Maki does an exceptionally good job! Try the Oh My God Roll, Fried Eel, and anything else the perks your interests because you won't be disappointed. Also, if your in the mood there 1$ soups are a great deal!
(5)Kim K.
Best sushi & fried rice in Daytona. Prices are amazing. Ask for Steve. He'll give you incredible service. We go every week and are never disappointed.
(5)Rey C.
Visited this place again for a friend's birthday dinner, in spite of my futile attempts to change his mind. After this visit, I truly wonder why anyone would bother to eat there. I, for one, will never step foot into this place again, ever. Food has always been so-so and the service is horrendous. My party of 4 had the following: 1) Chicken Katsu Don X2 2) Fried California Roll 3) Chirashi 4) Pork Katsu Don 5) Inari 6) Spicy California Roll First up, the green tea. There was hardly any hint of green tea in it, just plain hot water. Upon checking with a phone light (the whole place is very dim and they actually have a spinning disco ball), there was barely any green tea powder in all 4 cups. Ok since it is free, so be it. Having been here several times, I know that they can take up to 1 hour to serve our food. I decided to track the time this time round and it actually took 35mins from ordering to serving. Ok a slight improvement compared to the last visit. Then came the entrees. The waiter served us Oyakodon instead of Katsu don for the birthday boy. I told the waiter that it is wrong. He said they dont serve Chicken Katsu Don and he simply changed the order to Oyakodon. Mind you, another companion had the same thing and he got his order correctly. A truly WTF moment. An argument broke out and I questioned the waiter's knowledge in Japanese cuisine. Katsu is katsu and oyakodon is oyakodon. They are 2 totally different dishes. The only saving grace was that the waiter agreed to have it changed and asked if we wanted the oyako free of charge but we declined. I was already fuming after the verbal exchange. Then came the checks. The waiter had difficulty with the machine and the checks were wrongly done thrice. 40mins of my life was wasted waiting at our table just to foot our bill. Cafe du japon. An unforgettable dining experience.
(1)Tony A.
Must go ... Everything I tried was fresh and delicious. Great priced. Seriously I've been to almost all places in volusia county. Worth the visit. I'm from south Florida and this guy has it..
(5)Natalie G.
Age dashi Tofu- fried tofu in the most amazing broth! For 4 bucks, it's a must try even if you "don't like tofu".
(5)Raj G.
The name of this place kinda throws you off. This could be a hidden gem located right on seabreeze. Barely noticeable location. Great variety of choices on the menu. Everything can be catered to your liking. Note: Sushi rolls are quite large.
(4)Brett W.
Really? Best sushi you've ever had? Perfect? Blah, blah, blah... Eh. It's not bad. I've had a lot worse, but It's certainly not the best or even great. I have no idea if it's the best in Daytona Beach. I trusted my fellow Yelpers on this one, and it was one of the rare times you let me down. The rice was tough and dry, not the right texture at all. The fish was average, at best. The salad and the tataki were over-sauced, with pretty generic ones at that. I will say the staff was friendly and polite, and the waiter very efficient and courteous. If this is your idea of great sushi, you really need to get out more.
(3)Sandra B.
This is the best sushi in the Daytona Beach area! It's also very reasonably priced! The chef is friendly and I have never had a bad meal here!!
(5)Jackie S.
I recently came here with my sister for lunch because I had heard such good things from her about the food. So, I decided to give it a try. I wasn't blown away by the service - they had only one waitress who, while I was there, spilled a pitcher of water on another customer and kept running around like a chicken with her head cut off! The sushi was pretty good, however, certain rolls were pricey (they have a picture menu book with certain rolls that are $14). What I did like, the soy paper instead of the seaweed wrappers - so, if you aren't a huge fan of the seaweed, ask for soy paper. Each roll can pretty much be customized, but, God forbid you try to customize the lunch roll, "oh no, it's too busy for him to do that.' I asked for a side of spicy sauce - I didn't think that was unreasonable - but, I guess it was. Overall, I enjoyed the food. The service, eh, not so much.
(2)Susana D.
Thank you fellow Yelpers this is indeed a great find! Visiting from Cali for the weekend, and being the "sushiholic" that I am, I just had to try this place. The Triple Spicy Tuna Crunch roll was by far our favorite - all I can say is that it is like an explosion of wonderful flavors in your mouth - yum!! We also tried the Salmon Lovers roll and Tuna Tataki, both were excellent. The service was great, the staff is friendly and attentive. I will definitely come back next time I'm in town.
(5)enea c.
This was a recent find on Seabreeze. It's nice to see more and more restaurants opening on this side of town not associated with national chains. From what I hear the chef has a history in the Daytona area and is quite well known. I ordered their Sushi Deluxe option on the menu which was $17.00 for 11 pieces of sushi and one roll. That's a great deal! It took however nearly 30 minutes for that to arrive after I ordered it. The quality was decent. It's not the best sushi in Daytona but it was more than okay. I would like to revisit and try some of their special dishes soon.
(3)Ashley P.
Pleasantly surprised!! The sushi was delicious and the service was great. I was a bit hesitant walking in but very glad I did! I will be back!
(4)Megan S.
Love this place! Delicious sushi, good chill vibe. After trying it once, I plan on making it part of my list of regular out to eat places. Love the oyster roll!
(5)Karolina H.
Very friendly service. Though it doesn't look much like Japanese it is really good! Recommend: cucumber roll or tuna tataki.
(4)Brooke F.
Holy crap this place is awesome! Was in Florida for vacation for 5 days...we ate here twice! Be sure to get the Oh My God roll!
(5)Nick H.

The chef and owner is a true sushi master! We sat at the bar and ordered "chef's special" and were delighted with some of the most beautiful and tasty sushi creations we have ever had! The flounder sashimi was amazing! Service was exceptional and the general ambiance was very nice. There was a definite lack of pretentiousness that can sometimes affect this kind of establishment. Cafe du Japon seems to be focused more on creating honest and beautiful food in a very relaxed environment. I sincerely hope that Daytona will support this establishment!

Best sushi in Daytona and best value sushi I've ever had. First time there I couldn't believe the prices they were so cheap and was skeptical on the quality but the fish is very good!

Maybe I lucked out sitting down next to a local who asked me many questions about my taste preferences then made suggestions but this place rocks. Just go! I was traveling on biz from CT and so happy I stopped in. It is well up there for me with my home favorites. I'm no pro but ive tried well over 50 sushi places (top pics off yelp) and this place is great. Execution flavor and texture all top notch and it was a monday. Sushi sampler for 9 bucks was a crazy deal. Ask for conch salad too, I believe it's not on the menu, soo good. Pictures of rolls very helpful. Owners name is maki, only one that makes the rolls. He's also a great photographer as you will see in the menu and sweet wall art. Love the photo of the nose of an old school plane, turns out he's a pilot too! What does this have to do with sushi? I dont know, It was just a great feel to the enviroment. Don't confuse that with decor though, it's just a simple small place. Funny i didnt actually talk to maki, it was all through the local, but it was all very interesting and added to the experience. Hope to come back some day. I would go out of my way to come back.
